1. Supplication to Allah for guidance taught by Allah Himself.

SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION from Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Vol 1 pg 41-50)
1. This surah is known as 'Umm Al-Kitab' - The mother of the book , because the Quran & the prayer start with it. It is also called Umm Al- Kitab because it contains the meanings of the entire Quran.
2. It is also called Al-Hamd and As-Salâh.
3. It was called Salâh because reciting it is a condition for the correctness of Salâh-the prayer. Reciting Al-Fatihah is required in every Rak'ah of the prayer.
4. It was also called Ash-Shifâ (the Cure)
5. It is called Ar-Ruqyah (remedy)
6. It is the greatest Surah in the Quran
7. Allah has never revealed in Tawrah(Torah), the Injil(Gospel), Zabur(Psalms) or Furqân(Qurân) a surah like this.
8. It is also called seven repeated verses.

Self Assessment 1
Now check your understanding. Follow the following five principles after learning an ayah from the Quran.

1. We must read
2. We must know the meaning of what we are reading
3. We must try to understand it(as it was understood bt Great sahabahs)
4.We must contemplate it
5. We must practice it.

1. Read the following Surah Al Fatihah and try to bring the meaning of every word into your mind.
2. If you cannot remember, go back and revise until you know what you are reading.

3. Try to find Tafsir and ahadeeth related to Surah Fatihah to understand it more.

May Allah reward your effort and May Allah make it easy for us to understand His Noble Words in Quran.
